Of interest is the iconic Rockville Bridge , said to be the longest stone masonry arch railroad bridge in the world resembling the aqueducts of the Roman Empire. Built from 1900–02 by 800 workers, it’s 3,802 feet long with 48 arches. The Rockville Bridge has withstood many floods including its greatest threat from Tropical Storm Agnes in June of 1972. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. It remains in use today by Norfolk Southern Railway and Amtrak.
